This year's 2019 Technical Luncheon is based on the optical solutions which generate high-density, 3D point cloud modeling or photogrammetry deliverables. In addition, the real-time or post-processing software packages that renders these 3D reconstruction results.
The evolution of computing hardware, and the quality of still images, along with advancements in simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), has ushered the emergence of point cloud data derived from 3D photogrammetry. This is being fused with additional data sets in virtual reality scenes, which are now being understood as a high-end deliverables. Inspections surveys have progressed from simple VHS to DVDs and ultimately digital encoding of the video. The requirement for changing the standard deliverables is also beginning to evolve, allowing Clients / Engineers to obtain enhanced data in regards to accuracy resolution and relative / absolute positioning. How do subcontractors continually meet these demands, still be competitive, and provide effective and efficient services? By continually pushing the technology limitations.
The old adage of ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ holds true to a point, but with virtual reality one could say its worth a billion words (1,000 ^3) as its 3 dimensional.
The five vendors (Cathx, Comex, Dimeye, ROV3D, and Zupt) presenting at the Technical luncheon will share information regarding their innovative solutions, highlighting the benefits, deliverables and of each, allowing Contractors and Sub Contractors to provide tailor-made solutions to clients based on their requirements and the merits of each system.
