Speaker: Richard Goosen, Senior Hydrographer with Fugro, Houston office
Richard Goosen has been with Fugro since 2018 after retiring as a Royal Navy hydrographer. He has over 15 years of experience as a hydrographic surveyor and has worked on a wide variety of survey projects including harbour, navigation, continental shelf and deep ocean surveys. As a military hydrographer, he has also been involved in beach profile mapping, surf zone surveys and Rapid Environmental Assessment surveys. He has extensive experience in the use and mobilisation of the diverse equipment required for this work such as Multibeam echosounders (MBES), Singlebeam echosounders(SBES), sidescan sonars (SSS), precise positioning systems, total stations, levelling systems and Global Navigation Satellite Systems(GNSS). Mr Goosen has been responsible for the management, planning, data collection, data processing, quality control and product delivery for multiple projects to different customers such as UKHO, NGA and NOAA. His naval experience also gives him a particularly strong appreciation for team development and cohesion and the importance of individual and collective training.
Title of presentation: Successes and Challenges from the first deployment of Fugro RAMMS LiDAR
Brief description: The presentation will look at RAMMS (Rapid Airborne Multibeam Mapping System) in concept and the work that Fugro has done to develop this new LiDAR technology and where it will be heading in the future. From there I will move on to look at the initial results from the first projects conducted using Fugro’s RAMMS LiDAR including a look at data density, object detection and water penetration.
