Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMS) are increasingly being used and trusted to remotely collect data from the seabed, distribute it via the cloud, and deliver it on demand to an operator’s desk anywhere in the world for analysis; a system of inter-connected devices and platforms we refer to as Seabed-to-Everything (S2X).

The talk will provide an overview of different UMS ranging from Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) to Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and their different missions. Focus will be on the technologies used by UMS to interface with our oceans and the seafloor. Examples will be provided to illustrate the current state-of-the-art. It will also provide an overview of how new developments in swarming AUVs and hybrid, remotely operated AUV/ROV concepts will enable new way to interact with the seabed in the future, whilst reducing costs and improving decision making.
